Facts about Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan

Shah Jahan also called Shahab-ud-din Muhammad Khurram was one of the most popular and successful emperors of Mughal empire. He is known for the construction of Taj Mahal, one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

He made it in the memory of his beloved wife, Mumtaz.

 

Not only does he construct the beautiful Taj Mahal but also he built several monuments throughout north India. In fact,Shah Jahan ruled the empire for 30 years after his father Jahangir’s death.

 

Other monuments constructed by Shah Jahan during his rule:

  • Red Fort or Lal Quila, Delhi
  • Sections of the Agra Fort, Agra, Uttar Pradesh
  • Jama Masjid, Delhi
  • Moti Masjid or Pearl Mosque, Lahore
  • Shalimar Gardens, Lahore
  • Sections of the Lahore Fort, Lahore
  • Jahangir Mausoleum
  • Shahjahan Mosque

 

Shah Jahan is also the founder of Shahjahanabad in Delhi. And also the “Peacock Throne” which he got built for himself, is now worth a million dollars.
