Travel along the Nile River, Egypt | Nile River Cruises

Known as the Father of African Rivers, Nile River is the longest river in the world. It is about 6,853 km (4,258 miles) in length. That’s really long!!

To my surprise, Nile River covers for about ELEVEN COUNTRIES namely, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea, South Sudan, Sudan and Egypt.

Did You Know?

Nile River has two tributaries: The White Nile and the Blue Nile. White Nile is considered as headwaters and the prime stream whereas; The Blue Nile is the source of water and silt for Egypt and Sudan. Moreover, it provides water for cultivation even in the areas that do not receive rainfall.

You will be amazed to know that the White Nile begins from Africa’s largest lake, Lake Victoria.

But surprisingly, this might not be the “true” source of the Nile as it has many lakes coming in from surroundings. However, Kagera River is the ultimate and the most distant source of the Nile River as well as Lake Victoria. But still experts do not agree! Wonder why?

Hapi-the Nile God

Hapi, the god of the Nile was the reason for annual flooding in ancient Egyptian religion. Isn’t it interesting?

However, Hapi provided Egypt with fertility and the flood deposited rich silt on the banks which helped to farmers to grow crops. He was known as ‘Lord of the Fishes and Birds of the Marshes,’ which indicated that he provided creatures to the Egyptian people along with the Nile itself.

Do You Know?

The most feared and well known Egyptian animal is the Crocodile. As a matter of fact, these Egyptian crocodiles can reach lengths of 18 to 20 feet. Nile crocodiles are something you should be afraid of!

And as we can judge by now that without Hapi, Egypt would have died!

Places around the River

First of all, the most important and exciting part of Nile River is the Nile River Cruise

Secondly, this 3-night and 4-day Nile River Cruise from Aswan to Luxor gives you an opportunity to admire the antiquities of Egypt along the River Nile. It was such a wonderful experience for me. I witnessed the most beautiful sceneries one can only imagine!

Another beautiful destination around the river in the capital, Cairo. Cairo is the largest and the most wonderful city has a lot to offer at the day as well night time.

There is the last and the only remaining ancient wonder of the world, The Great of Pyramids of Giza. Also jaw-dropping ancient Egyptian collection at the Cairo Museum.

Wondering through the streets in Aswan, you will find yourself into the most colorful and beautiful place in whole of Egypt. You can also experience the great hospitality at Nubian Village across the river Nile in Aswan.

Other Sights to Explore:

  • Abu Simbel temple, Aswan
  • Kom Ombo Temple, Aswan
  • Karnak Temple, Luxor
  • Luxor Temple, Luxor
  • Valley of the Kings, Luxor
  • Tomb of King Tut and many more.

Nile River has an interesting past and the monuments and places along the river are a living example of that. Don’t believe me? Go out there and judge for yourselves!

“I am that person who dropped her B.Tech (really!) and chose to travel, specifically travel blogging. I’m Manmeet Kaur, a crazy, fun loving and adventurous person from Delhi. I knew I had an interest in writing since I was in school. I didn’t want to be an engineer, doctor or I would say a teacher. My plans were different. I wanted to travel which I guess no one,  specially girl had chosen to do in my family for a living. And like other human beings on this planet I have big dreams too. But my ultimate dream is to travel the world and share my experiences through writing and blogging.” 🙂
