Originally, India Gate was called All India War Memorial as it commemorated 70,000 Indian soldiers who lost their lives fighting for the British Army during World War I.

India Gate is a 42-metre tall monument located in the heart of Delhi. In fact, it stands at one edge of Rajpath formerly known as the Kingsway.

Duke of Connaught laid its foundation in 1921 and Edwin Lutyens designed it.

What inspired Edwin?

The architectural style of Arch of Constantine, Rome inspired Edwin. and he decided to desgin it.

However, India Gate is often compared to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris and the Gateway of India in Mumbai, India.

After Independence, Amar Jawan Jyoti was added which burns non-stop day and night. It is to remind the nation of the soldiers who sacrifice their precious lives in Indo-Pak War of December 1971.

“I am that person who dropped her B.Tech (really!) and chose to travel, specifically travel blogging. I’m Manmeet Kaur, a crazy, fun loving and adventurous person from Delhi. I knew I had an interest in writing since I was in school. I didn’t want to be an engineer, doctor or I would say a teacher. My plans were different. I wanted to travel which I guess no one,  specially girl had chosen to do in my family for a living. And like other human beings on this planet I have big dreams too. But my ultimate dream is to travel the world and share my experiences through writing and blogging.” 🙂
